| The origin of this beautiful Irish folk tune is unknown, but it has become famous through recordings by artists such as Fairport Convention, The Chieftans, Máire Brennan and Sinéad O'Connor (for the sountrack to the film Michael Collins). This haunting arrangement opens with two cornet soloists playing the mixolydian melody, which then passes to the horns and baritones as the piece reaches its climax, and back to solo cornets plus flugelhorn for the final verse. This arrangement will be quite straightforward for any half-decent brass band, but the harmony is unpredictable enough to keep you on your toes!
