Quintet by Matt Kingston £1.95
Although
a very popular and influential composer in his day (his pupils
included Puccini and Mascagni), the works of Amilcare Ponchielli
have sadly fallen into neglect.
La Gioconda is the only one of his operas regularly performed
today. Its famous movement 'The Dance of the Hours' was used
in the Disney film Fantasia, accompanying dancing hippos in
tutus (not obligatory attire for concert performances!).
This
simple arrangement would make a great encore item, and really
shows off the technique of your 1st trumpet player. |
