Gymnopédies
by Erik Satie (1866-1925)
arr. Brass
Quintet by Matt Kingston £1.95
These
gently hypnotic piano pieces were composed byErik Satie in
1887. Satie was an eccentric character; he always dressed
in green velvet, founded his own religion, and - when criticised
that his music lacked form - responded by naming his next
composition "3 pieces in the form of a pear".
None the less, he was a greatly admired musician, and a major
influence on Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc.
It is for his Gymnopédies that Satie will be remembered
- their haunting moods are frequently heard in movie and television
soundtracks. |
